Welcome back to the Carolina Cabinet, Cumberland County's smartest hour of talk radio. Peter Pappas and Laura Mussler open on Fayetteville City Manager Doug Hewett, who announced he'll step down before the end of 2026 after more than ten years in the job. Voters elect a mayor and nine council members, those ten hire one person, and that person runs everything else. With 911 consolidation and the data-center rules still in progress, Peter asks the council: who's steering while you're hiring?

Then Hope Mills, round two. The town is on the state's watch list with $3.47 million in operating cash against $6.18 million due before December, and firefighter positions are being held open. State Auditor Dave Boliek warns that without the state stepping in, Hope Mills could have ended up like Rocky Mount. The town board also voted 3–2 to go back to two-year terms, a change that doesn't take effect until after 2029. Plus: Cumberland County Schools tells employees to switch off recording smart glasses, adults charged after boarding school buses, and the math on the 41-cent gas tax holiday, about $362 million drawn from the state's inflation reserve.

Peter also takes apart a viral post claiming any mark a poll worker makes on your ballot disqualifies it. Also covered: new state laws that took effect October 1, including 12 weeks of paid parental leave for state employees; the 287(g) agreements signed by the Highway Patrol, SBI and ALE; and a rapid fire on the Crown, a proposed water and sewer district, SAVE-flagged voters, Fort Bragg and Cape Fear Valley's new pediatric emergency beds.

Early voting begins Thursday, October 15. Next up: Court of Appeals candidates Craig Collins and Michael Byrne in their own episodes. Find every candidate conversation at thecarolinacabinet.com.

Peter Pappas: Well everyone, welcome back to the Carolina Cabinet. I'm your host, Peter Pappas in studio with the lovely Laura Musler. Hello, hello, hello. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. So you've been busy in here. I have been very busy in here. I now have the camera right in my face. Yes, you do, and I'm not done yet. So you know. But hey, let's hope that you know, maybe this time I don't have any more technical glitches. I'm recording on all the backups and should be good to go. So let's jump right in. So Fayeville is about to hire the most powerful person in City Hall. you're not gonna be able to vote on it. Most of you don't know it happened until it's done. On Thursday, City Manager Doug Hewitt told the city he's leaving before the end of the year. And tonight we're gonna talk about who actually runs the city while the people you did elect go looking for his replacement. And the timing is what gets me. Is it? Yeah. Well, they got the nine one one merger coming. Yep. the county meeting is on October twenty second and the data center rules are due to be back in the council by the end of the month. Right. those are not small decisions. And whoever is sitting in that chair is interim is going to be the one carrying them out. So my question for council is simple. Who's steering while you're hiring? Well, look, this is how Favoral actually works. You know, you citizen elect a mayor and nine city council members. They hire exactly one employee, the city manager. That one person hires the police chief, fire chief, every department head. He also writes, he or she also writes the budget. The council votes on. For 10 years, Mr. Hewitt has held that seat. He did some real things during his tenure, the the Parks and Rec Bond, the Segra Stadium, and got the city through two hurricanes, not for nothing. But here's what I want you to sit with. The most consequential personnel decision this council makes all decade is about to happen. And the public has not been told how it's going to be made. is it a national search? Is it gonna be inside hire? How long does an interim sit? So those are the questions and right now nobody's answered them. Now I did reach out to manager Hewitt via email, believe last night, and to the city's public information. And? No response as of airtime today. Hm. Nothing. Nothing. Not response. And I'm I'm curious, at least usually city manager. Was there like a press conference or anything he just said? No, not quite he just announced. Well, he announced he's leaving by the end of the month. I don't think I'm not gonna call Mr. Hewitt a quitter quite yet. But if he doesn't come on here, I'm gonna call him a quitter. that I'm just gonna I'm gonna call him out if he doesn't know. It's okay. but no, I I was a little bit I don't know why we have a PIO if they're not gonna answer emails. So well maybe I'm just not important enough. I don't know. I don't know. So I wa and I did invite Mr. Hewitt to be here this evening as well, but again there is a city council meeting tonight. yeah, he's a little busy. A little bit. So look, it's unex unelected executive power. I mean, I think that they need to face the most public process possible. There should be a very well documented process of if no city manager, then we do this. It should Is there a policy? I don't know. That's what my questions were to the city. Was to find out, look, what do we do since he's stu I mean, look okay, forget if he didn't sit down or step down. What if he had a family mercy? What if he passed away? What would we do? What's the protocol? Like with the president, we have continuation of government. We know the speaker of the house is an assistant city manager? There are several what we refer to as ACMs, assistant city managers. And I've heard a couple of names tossed around. There are some that have been with us quite a while that I think could probably step in. But does that mean step in on an interim basis, or does that mean they're it? Mm-hmm. I certainly and I See this is why I don't believe in this right here is why I don't believe in term limits. You don't believe in term limits? Nope. We're not gonna have term limits as long as we have employees that are long term employees unless we have term limits for the employees too. okay. Got you. But why can't I be in favor of term limits? You can be in favor. I'm not going to be though. Just because all you have to do is, well, I only know he's gonna be in office for four years. I just have to outweigh him. Because and and the consistency of the people that are running the office are are just they're gonna do things. So the swamp might take a little bit of time to out to wait out the elected. That's right. That's one negative connotation of it's a big negative. Yeah. I mean you think about the all the bureaucracy, but this is this is part of it though. You've had it somebody that's been there for ten years and who's gonna take over? Mm-hmm. Well, we'll keep an eye on it, as promised. You know, I don't like when people don't return my phone calls and emails, so we'll be following up with the city. but let's move on. We got some some more kerfuffle in Hope Mills. no. I must say it isn't so. we started last week with the Francis Jackson episode on this. I did touch on it with her, and I promised we'd stay on it. So Hope Mills is again on the state's watch list. 3.47 million in cash is all they have against 6.8. million due before December. They have firefighter positions that are held open. And this week the state auditor, Mr. Day Bullock, who sits on the commission watching these books, he said that without the state stepping in, Hope Mills could have ended up like Rocky Mount, which is one quarter away from running out of money. Hmm. Well, and that's not me, that is the state auditor quoting that. So what did the town board do last Monday? Well They voted three to two to change how long they serve. Well, to be fair, the three to v three who voted yes, their two terms means voters get to weigh in more often. And if you're unhappy with how you the board handled the money, that's exactly what you want to do. But the mayor says it doesn't take effect until after twenty twenty nine. So the people in Hope Mills who are worried about the budget right now, what does this vote actually change for them? Nothing right now. And Forgive me if I'm wrong, but did most of the board get re-elected out in Hope Mails? The current sitting board? Weren't they most the majority of them did go? So a couple went though. A couple lost, a few. In the same vein that one elected board can't encumber a future board with having too long of contracts or whatever, I do believe that sometimes the people that have been there are the cause of the problems. Some it just there is I I hate to say it's like a snowflake. Every situation's different, but they are snowflakes. But I mean honestly, if your house was on fire and you were one quarter from being completely and totally broke, would your family first sit down and decide on who gets to vote on the thermostat? Jesus. You better be going me get me a cup of water. Put this fire out. I I don't know. I'm very disappointed in seeing this. we've had a lot of activity out there regarding most recently sitting board member grilly mitchell essentially giving the third degree to police chief Dollinger at last week so that would have been the fifth, October fifth meeting. you just don't dress down your your your police chief at the podium. Not at the podium, no. If there's some things you need to know you that's yeah. Well and not even. But I mean then again you talk about transparency, which is it? But it's not your position as a town board member to dress down any town employee except for the town manager. Because the town manager is who the police chief works for, not the town board. Well, there are other boards in Cumberland County that the board takes over to. Mm-hmm. That city employees just saying. Yeah. County employees, whatever. Well so they're getting too big for the bridges in my opinion. But we keep electing the same people. So what's If they don't just go to somebody local, we'll see what happens there. So maybe we do need a national search for Hope Mills. It would be nice if we had some good quality candidates here in the area. It would be nice to have successful people from home grown so they know the area. Well, what do you got do going on after March? You can apply. I I don't think I'm qualified for it. Sure. Yeah. Okay. Well I mean I could figure it out. From what I so and I'm not gonna from what people have s accused him of, the current town manager wasn't qualified either. That's not what I think, but that's what some of the folks out there in home mills believe. Throw my throw my hat in the ring. Let's do it. Yeah, let's do it. Why not? Why not? So as of last Monday, if you work for Cumberland County schools and your glasses can record, you better turn those off. Your school board is about to vote on the rest. What do you mean their glasses can record? Well, there's two stories, one theme. So who gets to be where and who gets to record what? around our kids, especially. So first, the superintendent, Mr. Bracey, or Dr. Bracey, sorry, signed a rule last Monday. Recording smart glasses have to be powered off for every school employee on the clock. Honestly, I I think that's right. I mean, parents never consented to their kids. What about their kids wearing the glasses? Well, their kids' faces going into someone's cloud. Okay, so but there's a second policy also waiting on a vote. one decides when a teacher can record a classroom at all, and one has a whistleblower exception and and I think that matters most. I don't know about that. The do the kids have to take their glasses off too? in the detail I've got, there is no accommodation for the children. There is no mention of children from what I researched here. Hmm. So buses. Two separate times in September. An adult goes on an elementary school bus and wouldn't get off when the driver told them to. So one of them right here on a Hope Mills route. Both were charged. So here's what I want every school board candidate to tell us. What does a bus driver do in that moment? And what does a parent with a real complaint do instead of climbing on the bus? All right. First of all, if you're a parent, you keep your ass off the school bus. I'm sorry. You do not belong on that school bus. I don't care whose baby it is. That's school property and you don't cross the line. Now, unless your kid is being assaulted and you're seeing it. What was the reason that they were on there? Don't know, but I know they got charged. Hmm. The police aren't gonna charge them for no reason. Well, that's not necessarily I mean that's well, I'm just I'm Over here on the I think they're doing the right thing column. But I don't know. I don't know. Look, I just I feel like anywhere my child is, I think I have the right to be. But it's vigilanteism at a certain point. You don't get to go in look, there are proper channels to handle bullying and stuff like that at school. Now I understand you can only say it till you're red in the face. Mm-hmm. But we want everybody just hopping on the bus thinking they're correct. What if that person had a had a weapon? What if that you know what I mean? Like the it can escalate. We could live in a world of what ifs too, though. Yeah, we could. But I'm just saying w if my child is being well, I don't know. I I six of one, half a dozen of another, 'cause I'm like in the middle. I don't really want parents on the bus like coming and screaming at my kid. And that's what people do. They go and scream at not their own kid. Cause I if I'm going on the bus, I'm going to whip My child's ass. Okay. I'm not whipping somebody else's ass. I think we can give a pass for that. If you're going to whip your own kid's ass, then you get to go on the bus. Okay, that's fair. Fair. All right, we'll agree to that. So but Cumberland County Schools and the Sheriff's Office did have to remind parents last week that only students and authorized personnel may board. Cumberland County Schools repeated the guidance in an October fourth update to all parents. let's back up though. Bus riding is a privilege, not a right. You are guaranteed in this state by the Constitution sound basic education. That's it. Not a ride to the school. Not a ride to the school. So if the and I also think this is why we don't keep school bus drivers. If you got little maladjusted Johnny and Susie jumping around acting like fools and then mommy And then mommy wants to intervene and you're the you're somehow the villain for disciplining, you know, maladjusted Johnny, then why? Why churn up to be a bus driver? I w yeah, I understand that. Hell the hell with that. you can't pay us enough. now if you need somebody to go in there and start whipping some kids, we can give them a fresh one. Do is there still corporal punishment in school? No. And that's that's one theme with some of the school board candidates. I said, look, stop with the whole back in my day bullshit. You know, like just stop. You know, because Back in your day was probably a horse and buggy too. So stop it. let's not be not they weren't quite that old. But the point is let's let's talk about twenty twenty six problems. And and most of the kids these days need a good ass whipping. So I'm all for cor corporal punishment because that's part of the problem. So you're more you're more keen on doing that. Yeah. Well, most of them. And my kids got some ass whippings. It's like you liked yours, just not everybody else's. Right. So let's move on to Raleigh. forty one cents a gallon you're not paying this weekend, or there's a there's a gas tax holiday is what it is. So it's forty one cents lower. I wish I would have known about this before I filled up. I don't I hadn't I filled up a couple days ago. I didn't see that. So I think it doesn't go into effect. Let's see, where is it? October Wednesday, October signed Friday, October ninth. Right. So from the tenth through November thirtieth. So two days ago. I still paid four dollars and eighty cents for gas. Yeah, you buy you buy expensive. Buy the fancy gas. Yeah. So do I. Yeah. So look, nobody hates a tax. I mean, more than I do. I I don't think that taxation is theft. It's theft, yeah. So let me say the uncomfortable part. When we had Representative Jackson on, she and I discussed exactly this problem I have with this. Money doesn't disappear when you cut the tax. The state passed its budget in July. So we already fought. I mean, we didn't have a budget for three years. Well, okay, well, let's not rush to spend it. So the budget counted on the gas tax coming in though. So when Raleigh says, you get relief at the pump, not that it's related to election season at all, the savings account the state put aside for a rainy day is gonna get eaten up. the state has what's called a state inflation reserve. And that's what they're using to pad the the budget to make up for and what do they come up with? So basically this tax is projected to cost the state three hundred and sixty two million dollars. Hmm. That we're gonna have to dip into wait wait wait wait wait wait. It's not gonna cost the state. It's gonna cost the tax pay payers sooner or later because the state doesn't make any money. True. They take it from us. Taxation is theft. Mm-hmm. So it doesn't cost the state anything. Mm-hmm. It cost us. Well, it means the state can't have those funds for another hurricane or another, you know, it's not gonna be readily v not that we won't get the money for that stuff, but we're gonna have to We will they'll steal it from us in another way. Yes, they will. They sure will. but a hundred the so the score the score, the vote in the legislature was one fifty two out of a hundred and fifty three voted for it. So wide bipartisan support. Last time they ever agreed to anything. I don't know. But I mean, I will say this election season, and just to take the other side of it, people are struggling. Yeah. I mean, there's some real struggles out there. And it is our money. So if we could have voted on it, we probably would have voted the exact same way as people. Well, so and that's why I'm afraid that BS amendment about the property taxes is gonna make it through. And our people on the conservative Republican side are normally f are for all three amendments and I'm in the middle. I'm for amendment number one, the ID, but the income tax and the property tax I am not in favor of. Why? Income tax is it's just dumb to put it in the Constitution because the legislature and Representative Jackson and I discussed this, you can make a law or whatever and change things as it goes, but a constitutional amendment requires a ballot. So You know, that puts a much higher bar and takes away the legislature's ability to switch when they need to. And the property tax thing, my problem with it is it reminds me of Obamacare. Remember when we vilified Obamacare? Because I think at the time Pelosi and all of her minions said, Well, you have to pass it to see what's in it. Remember that? So we don't voting for this amendment for the property tax deal, which everybody's like, Yeah, screw the government, no more taxes, it doesn't mean anything about Limiting it means it's going to limit the counties on what they can do, but it doesn't set an actual number limit. What if they say, well, the counties can can change up to 50% this year? Hmm. That sound good to you? Not pretty. But that was the limit. So the voter ID thing, item one, we already have voter ID. We're just codifying it into our constitution. And even the people on the left are saying that. Right. Don't vote for it because we already have the rules. Well Then you're not worried about it. We're already we're just making it permanent now, so they can't screw with it in the future so they can't cheat. Right. I still haven't had anybody give me a good argument for the voter ID not to vote for it if they don't want to cheat. I said, before you answer anything, do you want to cheat, yes or no? And I lose Well, it's not about cheating. No. It's just, you know, it's it's suppressing the vote. I did comment on are we suppressing people from buying alcohol or are we suppressing people from riding on airplanes or getting going to the doctor? No, not unless I show their rear end. I did on the Facebooks this weekend, I saw a campaign post from the Watley No, I'm sorry, the Cooper campaign. And it was at some county, I think it was in Whiteville, and it said, Look, we finally got a sign for, you know, Cooper. And I can't make this crap up. It was over a cemetery. So I responded, look, he's talking to all of his constituents. but then like on top of his ad was a McDonald's billboard. And it was so faded out, I also notated nobody ever goes by there. That's why he got it cheap. You can see McDonald's is gonna let their stuff look like that if they knew about it. Right. So it must be in some off place in the country, something where people are dead. Yeah, where the cemetery people are, so they can vote Democrat. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So what else we got here? So Go ahead. I I was gonna throw something out there. Go ahead. I got a phone call. You did. From a person that said that people were going to nursing homes around here. One vill one on the greens or something like that, village on the greens. You're talking about the MAT teams? Supposedly, but sh they were there and sh they're supposed to be nonpartisan. She said this was not nonpartisan. So the Board of Elections has Yeah. these teams. I called Linda Depor immediately. So and this is not the Board of Elections. She the person that was there said this was not par nonpartisan. Right. Okay. She said there are three people here, and I can promise you because there's supposed to be like one Republican, one Democrat, whatever. Yeah. So I do wanna Let's see, there was one I do so since you mentioned Ms. DeVore, who is our Board of Elections chairwoman down at the Board of Elections. let me see. I did send her something today and I told her we would discuss it on the air. there was a Facebook post going around. it looks very official. It says, please pass this important info on. And then it goes on to say, a very reliable source of of mine just finished the poll worker training and she texted this quote. Just finished poll manager training. I passed all the classes. I want you all to know something. When you are checking in at the polls and they happen to write anything on your ballot before they give it to you, to put it in the voting machine, a letter, a check mark, a letter star, an R or a D, any writing of any kind, please request a new ballot. Your ballot will be disqualified if it's written on. Please be on the lookout. Make sure poll workers do not write on your ballot. It will cause your ballot to be disqualified. And of course, please forward to everyone you know. It was posted without contacts, without where they finished poll manager training. we don't call it poll manager training here in Cumberland County. It's it's you're a precinct judge. Precinct official. You're a precinct official, you're either a judge or a chief judge. so that number one tells me this is not from Cumberland County, but it's being circulated in Cumberland County. and then when it says not to let anybody write anything, so the only time any Board of elections personnel, precinct officials should write on your ballot is they should fill in the letter P on top of it if it is a provisional ballot. And that's supposed to go in an envelope anyway. Right. But you write the P on it. So just in case, because this has happened, the voter kind of goes and finishes it and then goes straight to the machine. Right. So at the end of the night, we have a way to verify, okay, well, that was a provisional. That shouldn't have made it in there, and that's called an overcount. but this is unprecedented. And I actually asked the poster to stop passing or stop posting this dumb crap. but I did promise Ms. DeVore that I would address it tonight. 'Cause it's it look, there's a lot of people that have worked for the Board of Elections as a precinct official. And I think if you have done at least one or two elections, you're gonna know this is B S. Right. and anyway, I just I promised I would share that and That's all I got to say about that. So it is true. Don't write it. Don't let anybody write on your ballot. Nobody should nobody should be writing on your ballot. But even if they did, when you put it in that tabulator, which the voter should be able to put it in until it like grabs it and then it it runs through. the votes counted by the bubbles that are on the sheet. It doesn't matter if somebody put D or R or anything else. Now, unless you had a completely complicit precinct judges and officials, which would be Trying to get five to seven people at least to keep a secret and open the bin at closing time and find the D's or the R's or whoever you're pissed off at and pull them out and then spoil those ballots and then get new ballots and then fill out the ballots the way you want. You really think you can keep that many people secretive? I don't know. Ask the people that did the moon landing. Yeah, well, hey, god damn it. having such a good day today and you gotta just bring up some old wounds. Okay. So with that, we're gonna talk about another law that changed. there's a whole new list of laws that kicked in October first. quick tour if you work for the state and you have a baby or you adopt. Hello. You just like dropped down for a minute. So let's start over. Yes. Yes. Tell me about the laws. So if you if you work for the state or and you have a baby or adopt, you now get 12 weeks paid. That used to be eight for birth parents and four for everybody else. your registration sticker on your car is going away. It's going digital. you still need your inspection, though. It just lives on the electronic record now. ticket bots. This is a good one. So I sit on the Civic Center Commission and one thing for the J. Cole concert, they were extra vigilant to make sure that. bots were not able to buy the first batches of tickets. And the way were they allowed to buy the second batches? I think they opened it up to just whatever afterwards. But the main thing was that they actually took extra steps to make sure it was a local show. And they did that by zeroing in on people's zip codes for their credit card that would that was put in. So if you were outside the radius, you weren't able to buy them. nice. They did take actual steps to try to keep it local, but now this is going to be a law That the ticket bots that scoop up every concert seat in thirty seconds are now illegal and it is and so is selling a ticket you don't actually have. What do you what does that mean you selling a ticket you don't actually have? I guess people were I don't know. They were buying tickets and brokering them out, maybe? Well then but yeah, but like But you still gotta buy the ticket. Right, like Stub Hub. So I buy tickets on Stub Hub for the Carolina Hurricanes game because there's a certain section that I like to sit in and they usually get sold out very fast, but people so how do I know. Well look how do you not have the tickets if I'm buying them from you? I don't know. Isn't that called like fraud? I'm gonna have Senator McInnes in here later this week. I'm gonna put this one to him, okay? Okay. So the board that licenses physical therapists now writes its own ethics rules instead of borrowing in national associations. So, you know, some of these, the question's gonna be the same. Who's gonna enforce this stuff and what is it gonna cost us? I don't know. I like the ticket back on. That that one sounds good. because anybody who's tried to pay by Hurricane playoff tickets, you're talking about some hefty, hefty money, because I was just talking about yeah. Yeah. So now the price you see is going to be the price you pay, fees included. But for the venue, it's real money too. So a seat held by a bot or a fake resale ticket is an empty seat that doesn't buy a drink. It doesn't buy a t shirt. It doesn't yell and scream or anything like that. So Stickers. I th I I think the stickers are stupid anyway, 'cause it's just a waste of money just 'cause because they run your tags. And they they know if you're They should. Yeah. It's it's right there in the computer, but like doo doo doo doo, no insurance and then like oops. I wonder how many if this even factored in, like how many interactions with police will be fewer now that they're that they're electronic and they could just figure it out. 'Cause sometimes I've renewed and never put the sticker on. I've done that. I got actually got a ticket. Many years ago I got a ticket for that. Because I didn't put the sticker on and I didn't sign it. I'm like, but I paid for it. I I just never got the stick at Really? I went to court and they dismissed it, but it was like just really I got a ticket one time for a dirty license plate because when the cops pulled me over it was like twelve thirty and I was in my neighborhood and they were just screwing with me and I basically gave lips. They gave me a ticket for a dirty that's actually a charge. Dirty license plate. Yeah. Yeah. Not it was obstructed or some crap, but it was just worn out. It's twelve years old. Interesting. So all right. One more state law that kicked in and we are gonna be heading out of here shortly. So a state law that passed over the governor's veto required our state agencies to get to sign agreements with ICE and the deadline was October first. Highway patrol, SBI, and ALE all signed what are called task force agreements. They designated officers can carry out certain Immigration Functions, Adult Correction signed a warrant service agreement. Troy McDuffie, who's running for sheriff, talked about ICE detainers in his interview with us, and that will be out on October 14th, that Wednesday morning. The same morning that LaRue Winham's will drop at the same time. So both candidates episodes are coming out the same day, so you can listen to both. Hmm. Hmm. Well, what people need to understand is what this is and what this isn't. Not every two trooper just became an ICE agent. there are designated officers with specific powers. So if you're a legal resident and if or if you're in a family where not everybody has their papers, you deserve to know exactly what can happen at a traffic stop on I-95. And right now, most people don't know. Nope, they don't. Okay. so let's I want to skip the next section we have here. I don't want to talk about the Senate race because I just don't want to talk about Nobody wants to talk about it. That's why we're quiet. Hurricane Isaiah. I don't want to be a weatherman, but we did get hit by a category two storm. We did have tornadoes here yesterday. We sure did. We were on our way to Sam's Club and we got the imminent thing and turned around and went home. Well, lucky. I'm glad I did. Well, there was some lot of damage over there. Mm-hmm. let's hit the rapid fire real quick. So I I do sit on the crown crown center board, but we do need to talk about the crown and the comedian. Before I say a word, I've already told you I'm on that commission. we told you we would watch this story. Daniel Tosh put out a video blasting Fayetteville after his date fell through. my impression is his people were fine with not taking the smaller room, but either way, the building of the Crown Theater was not safe and it's been terr torn up by now and it's really not Fayetteville's fart fault. Favel's fault. It is Save Favel's part. That's why it's Look, comedians comedians, especially Daniel Tosh, they he's paid to be kind of angry. Right. so engineers are paid to be right. So I'd rather err on the side of caution. So keep him and everybody else safe. So well. Show property owners the maps, the cost and weather hookup is required before anything is created. Clean water is a public health obligation and settlement money should get it. They're fast. So the October 5th County Commissioners voted unanimously to hold public hearings proposed for November sixteenth on creating Cedar Creek and East Central Water Sewer District after PFAS showed up in Cross Creek Wells. So this isn't pipes in the ground yet. It's the legal step that lets the county build water lines and charge for them. So if you live out there, November sixteenth is your right to ask who pays and whether it's mandatory. Right. Well, there were fifteen hundred and ninety nine flagged voters in the state of North Carolina. I told you we'd follow up. I messaged the Cumberland County Board of Elections of how many of the fifteen hundred and ninety nine ineligible voters were here. they've asked the state board and the state has not answered either. So I'm still waiting on I wanna know how much impact Cumberland County has. Because if you just run by the averages, we have a hundred counties, fifteen hundred and ninety nine, says a hundred and sixty people per That could make difference in a vote. It could make a huge difference. Especially yeah. So go ahead. Okay. Well, on October eighth, the Army stood up its fourth multi domain task force. There's about two thousand one hundred soldiers at Fort Carson, Colorado. The Army plans puts f the fifth at fourth Bragg. So fully operational by fiscal year twenty twenty eight. So Congress's research service calls this restationing predecisional. I don't know what that means. So long range strike units at Fort Bragg are mean deterrence deterrence and jobs. More missions at Bragg means more housing, schools, and traffic pressure. The county has not planned for a surprise. That makes sorry, I that wasn't very nice. Right. A multi-domain task force is the unit that funds an enemy's missile and air defenses and knocks them out from long range so everyone can move. Bragg isn't getting one yet. Bragg is in line for one. Yes. That's a planning conversation Fayetteville should have right now. Let's start planning for them to come here so that when they get here We'll be ready. Yep. So if you sat in the waiting room at two in the morning with a sick kid, you know exactly why this one's gonna matter. the Kfir Valley is adding twenty four beds to its pediatric emergency department plus a larger waiting room. the ER now stays open 24-7 during construction. So that's gotta be quite a balancing act they're going in there. but do they still say only one person per person in the waiting room? I'm not sure, but we know we never get enough of beds and all. We need our little kids taken care of. So all right. Well that was five under the rapid fire. I'm I think it's about time that we call it. So that's the live block. Here's what's behind the door. Two judges who want a seat on the North Carolina Court of Appeals, Mr. Craig Collins and Michael Byrne. And the one question every voter should ask a judge, when has the law made you rule against what you personally wanted? And we asked Mr. Collins that a little earlier, and we're going to ask Mr. Byrd here in just a minute. I'm going to ask both of them where I think they're wrong, and then of course I'll shut up and let them answer. That's what this is for. So it's free. It takes four seconds.
