Retired
I am a retired citizen who spent my career in banking. I held multiple positions in my career to include teller, teller supervisor, and Assistant Manager. My most important role was mom and Mimi. I am mother to 3 successful children. My daughter is an elementary school teacher; my middle son owns his own handyman service; and my youngest son is a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have 7 beautiful grandchildren. My career in banking has given me the skills to work with the public to find mutually agreeable solutions to every day problems. This skill set can help me in my Commissioner’s role to work with fellow Commissioners and the community to bring about necessary changes to help our town grow and prosper.
The issue most important to me is the growth of Hope Mills. I believe we need responsible growth. Right now, a slow down in growth is necessary to allow infrastructure to catch up to the explosion of growth that has happened over the last several years. Citizens are concerned that the growth is too fast and is overtaking quiet neighborhoods. We need a moratorium on building until we can get a plan in place for the future of Hope Mills. Also, the citizens’ voice is very important to me. I believe, at this time, the people of Hope Mills are not being heard.
The Commissioners serve the people, not the other way around. The people do not want to be told what is best for them when they have clearly spoken against something and the Board votes in their best interest and not the citizens’ best interests. For example, the recent vote to extend terms to 4 years. No one spoke for the change at the BOC meeting. Several people spoke against it. By a majority vote, the Board voted to change the town charter to state that the terms would be staggered 4-year terms. I strongly believe this should have been a question that was placed on the ballot for the people of Hope Mills to decide. Going forward, if elected, I will take the peoples’ voice to heart.
I will listen and respect their right to govern themselves through the Board. The decisions I make will be based on what the majority of citizen give voice to.
My husband and I moved to Hope Mills ten years ago. The beautiful, small-town feel of Hope Mills that we fell in love with then has, sadly, been replaced with traffic, crime and too many housing developments jammed in every available piece of property. I want to see the quaint feel of Hope Mills restored. I believe if we work together as a community, we can achieve this goal.
